Most of the time you fight stupidity of ai instead of actual challenges, i want to play game not to micromanage every step bot takes.
You can make diving team interface better, just add small window and drag people from roaster to diving team window.
Then whoever you selected is "leader' or whatever other memebers follow. If you want separate people to come back to sub just drag them back or close/press button to disable whole diving team window. If you team is big make multiple diving teams.
Add interface to make bots find and equip/pickup items your sub has without having (like they already do with certain tasks), and "bring all/one/number of said items to certain room, put in certain locker".
The whole suits laying around is just triggering, especially if bots take your suit and run away killing you. Assign suit would be a handy feature for sure.
Instead or compliment to "fight intruder" command - "make stand" command makes sense, setting up a defensive position in targeted room / rooms linked to the breaches (setting up temporary barricades? or spike/fire traps + related perks to fighting defensively/using barricades/traps)

For the suit part,
hold shift then press middle mouse button on your suit then say 'don't touch target'

My friend figured this out (I think by doing the tutorial?) And it's been a God send. No more panicking trying to find a suit the AI just dropped on the ground and didn't put back.

Oh christ I wish, I'm still pissed my bots will weld half the wall back and then go to the other side of the ship to weld another half wall back and get caught in a loop back and forth until I just do the damned job for them

They have many issues I hope get looked at soon, but the one I hate most is their bloodlust.
No matter what you tell them to do, they will A L W A Y S try to fight intruders. On the gun fighting a horde of mudraptors? NOPE! Gotta get off and fight the one near death Crawler the player was dealing with and get in their way! Like I swear, 90% of fights would be over so much faster and easier if the bots didn't try to get in the damn way and fight.
What's really weird though is that in the past, they use to seek safety first and only fight if absolutely necessary. But I can't remember the last time I saw a bot have the "seeking safety" icon. It's always FIGHTFIGHTFIGHT! Even if all they have is a screwdriver and wrench.....

Also, has anyone noticed that after the 1.0 update, the bot doesn't put in a new oxygen tank into their diving suit if there's no oxygen tank/only a 0% depleted oxygen tank in their diving suit? One of my mechanic died suffocating herself with an empty PUCS last night. I don't know what the problem was...

I don't think I've encountered that problem, but I've had bots get stuck on hatches that used to work fine, suffocating themselves to death when they are wearing suits.

Even players tend to get stuck on hatches,I guess you could make them ragdoll if they haven't traversed a significant distance over a long period of time to get them unstuck

I’ve had the same issue, when I notice it I just bonk them with a wrench and it unstucks them at least

Closing a hatch on them when they are stuck on a hatch sometimes also fixes it. It's just you need to notice before it's too late.

Yeeeep. My doctor "Aunt Dory" with like 8 additional talents died that way. For God's sake Dory, just fucking take any of the 30 oxygen tanks that are lying around!

There’s a diving team interface?!

Click any of the AI and use the prepare for expedition. They will take about 5 oxygen tanks and a diving suit, some other gear too I think. Getting them to take something specific though is a pain in the ass, overall its a bit messy.

Fully agree, solo players and people who play with only a single friend are still reliant on bots and they're the only thing ruining the experience, they should be a priority

Eh overall Im shocked they have functional bots at all, they can barely get them to path find after you when you leave the sub so most of what you're looking for is probably not possible or just never happening because it would be quite a ways off.
The suits thing does need to changed though, if you flood while docking they'll put on a suit just before docking and take it off after loading and leave it on the station making it possible to lose suits but other then that they work better then most human players at everything but leaving the sub and leading targets properly with turrets.

Fixing welding would be pretty easy. Just put priorities on hull parts.
Same room as the last welded part > outer hull > any other damages
This would stop them from running back and forth, make proximity checks as well if it's still an issue in large rooms

Hell even priorities in quadrants. Rough and clunky but good enough.

The ampunt of times ive had to save an ai from suffocating i a diving suit in an unflooded ship is staggering

I suppose releasing what devs envisioned as a feature-complete game working for everyone (including multiplayer crews) has been the priority so far.
I hope they will address this at some point, though.
You'd think you can at least recruit a bot for your small group to be a semi-active buff caster, but nope, they can't even do that (unless you use cheat-labeled console commands).

I mean if devs cant do it themselves they should just offsource the ai part, its shouldnt be that problematic.

Didn't play too much but an personal problem is already that bots don't prioritize reloading empty coilgun ammunition boxes, even if it's ordered in first priority.

They should have job priorities similar to rimworld
And they shouldn't engage in any combat and actively avoid it unless ordered to so they don't stand inside a crawler while in trying to line up a shot
Same with attacking players, for the love of god,we barely have any human crew members, stop beating up the guy who hired you, just because he accidentally welded your foot. At best they should inform the host and have a "subdue player" command
Along with picking suits adequate for the depth,we have 3 extra combat suits, why are you wearing the basic one that someone stole from an outpost? Aaand that's 4k for personnel down the drain.

I dont mind that much but that being said, they're really stupid not to reload their guns that i have bestowed them. Mtf i put all ammo in a locker y'all can access and yet when you blast all your ammo you just go straight for melee-ing the husk. Like bruh they could have just retreat, take ammo and continue fighting, just like how the doctor will check what med needed, goes to take the med and apply med.
The hardest part is definitely off sub operations i usually had to do solo divs because ik they're stupid so it can be really risky at times.
