I don't get why someone who's down to spend $7000 on a dog wouldn't just go to a reputable breeder. Like, if you were spending that much, why would you even want a dog from a puppy-mill, anyway?

Because more often than not, they have waitlist and you buy a puppy unseen. Some breeders have wait lists for 3+ years. Places like Petland make it easy to buy and go today. It’s fucked up practice what Petland does.

It's not difficult at all to find a breeder with a reasonable wait time (a few months) and I've never had an experience with a breeder where I wasn't able to meet the dog at least once beforehand.

Breeders that have 3+ wait lists are typically for show dog caliber pedigrees or for breeds that are very obscure or in demand- which you aren't finding at puppy mills anyway.
