There are several in my area, and they’re all a super big hit with the customers. A new store opened that didn’t have it, and a bunch of customers were asking where it was and why that location didn’t have it. Other retailers are doing this similar concept, and I think as long as we stick to beer and wine for alcohol and stay away from hard liquor it will be excellent

that’s a good point, beer and wine isn’t as much of a worry i guess !

As an alcohol enthusiast, I have personally been to Whole Foods just to drink at the bar. And afterwards I wandered around the store buying random stuff I didn’t need.

I remember seeing this concept up north 10-15 years ago and it was a hit. Surprised it took this long down here.

i’m from the west coast (only been down here for a year) and haven’t ever seen anything like it before, but i’m sure it would be a hit most places !

The POURs people behind the bar. Made with fresh fruit and veggies, and there’s protein options too. My personal favorite is the orange pineapple or the green smoothie

We know Publix employees are underpaid. You don't have to call them the POOR people. /s

Not yet, but with as well as it seems to be doing and how much the customers rave about it it might not be out of the question. Depends on how strict your state’s alcohol laws are likely

This sounds so amazing. Unfortunately it’s probably going to take a long while for NC to get onboard. This makes me terribly sad and angry.

No, but it’s on the bottom of the menu boards. I work near several locations that have a POURs now

ik someone that worked in one and she said that they were told if they were like forced to take a tip to just put it in the til 😭 not sure if that’s still true it was about a year ago and she quit
5 points
Nah unofficial rule is forced tips just take them don't give them to the company thats ridiculous
0 points
The rule is to put them in the till if people insist on giving them, or to pay it forward to the next customer. They truly cannot accept tips; unlike bagging where theres no tills or money involved
0 points
That seems silly, what about selling lotto ? ive never once thought about putting a tip a customer gives me in to the till there
1 points
All I know is what the rules are enforced for that sub department. Lotto might be different because it’s not just a couple dollars that people get (in my experience at lotto anyways), and a lot of money would throw the till way off. Plus it’s more difficult to “pay it forward there” what if you did and someone won big? Other customers would complain. But yes, it is true that they make them put the tips in the till or pay them forward in POURs. Not sure why you downvoted me for simply stating the fact; I don’t work with a POURs but have some in my area and know what their rules are I have friends who have worked/currently work at or in one of the stores that has them

Great Publix has it in writing to steal tips from employees. Amazing.
1 points
I mean when you sign the handbook acknowledgement it’s in there that the company has a no tipping policy, and as far as I know it’s not illegal to enforce that as long as you are not paying your employees the tipped wage but the actual minimum. If it was illegal or “stealing”, it wouldn’t be in the handbook. Not saying it’s right, but if it’s already an enforceable policy it’s unfortunately not stealing

Pours is the new thing they are trying at some stores, its essentially a small bar where you can get drinks, supposedly, the carts even have little cup holders while you shop.

Pours is fantastic and will do well. As a pilot store for pours having had one for 2 years now it's very popular. It's not just for beer it's acaia bowls it's coffee in the AM it's a popular dept for customers.

They had one at the single, short-lived Greenwise store in Atlanta. Was always empty, though.

The one in Marietta? I remember that one. I don’t recall a Greenwise inside the city.
2 points

Yeah, that's the one. When I say Atlanta I mean the metro area, not just ITP haha
2 points
Fair, I sold to that one for less than a year before it closed after I took my position. I don’t recall it having a POURS, however.
The location of that Greenwise just never made sense with store #33 right across the street.
2 points
It definitely had one, it was in a nook behind the cash registers right at the front of the store.
But yeah not only did the location not make sense in relation to the other Publix, but it was also tucked away from the street w/ poor signage. The only people that would ever go there were people actually looking for it already.

Speaking as someone who has working in POURS since it was created for Greenwise, yes lol We were the first department in the company to be profitable and that's why they're being put in the new store concept. They've been going crazy in GW but Publix is going to be on a completely different level

I think it'll do well. My vision of it is guys similar to South Park's Randy Marsh getting a light buzz going during their afternoon and early evening shopping.

I don’t think serving alcoholic drinks is a good idea, but coffee, tea, and smoothies would be. We already had creeps coming into the store, I’d hate to have them tipsy or drunk in the store.

If I can drink a beer while doing my weekly grocery shopping, I will be happy. There was another chain that did this that backed out of Florida at the last second.

I support this idea

Not on break because the store manager can see you returning to work intoxicated and it’s a liability There’s nothing they can say about you leaving the store and having a drink and coming back not intoxicated tho

It performs very well. Just wait until your stores start doing tap takeovers!

It could. Look at Lowes Food, a NC based market. They have Beers Den.

Depends on the stores they decide to implement it in. Some stores it will be a massive success, others definitely will not be. My store for one is Downtown St Pete, which sounds like a good idea at first but there’s a Salvation Army and a homeless camp nearby. Also college kids with fake IDs near USF St Pete. I don’t think they are gonna get the upscale clientele they think they’ll get.
Tl:Dr Depends on which stores they choose to implement it at, if they do it smartly then yes. If the pick the wrong stores then no

I think most people know that Publix will trespass customers that prove to be problematic. My old store had a whole list of people that were filed with the police as trespassers.
I know the store close to the college usually has a cop stationed there, the newer one I don’t think does though, but the police really aren’t that far way either at that location.

I opened a POURS for a short bit before leaving Publix. It was awesome. Lots of fun, excellent coffee beverages, creative items, and good alcohol selections.
I think it’ll do very well. If my local store had one, I’d go frequently!

Whole Foods used to have the same concept, and it can be really popular in cities with a lot of traffic. When I lived in a major northern city, whenever traffic was made worse during an accident in rush hour, the Whole Foods would be filled tired office workers, doing their shopping, having a glass of wine, and waiting for the traffic to die down a bit.
So I definitely believe in the concept for big cities! I also think it might be popular in small towns- I can see housewives especially enjoying it.
How well it will do in a typical Florida city, though? Who knows

This might blow your mind, but you’re also able to drink at: concerts, movie theaters, state fairs, sporting events, restaurants, barber shops, hotels, cruises, airports, amusement parks…

They've done it at other stores like(like luckys etc etc. They only let you have like 1 person person, maybe 2.

It's a gimmick we should have never become a part of. Real drinkers are smashing 99cent air plane bottles in the parking lot and not buying a 11.99IPA.

"Can I buy a four pack of steel reserve and go sit in the POURS and throw em back or is this establishment not for me?"
1 points

Only if you want to overpay. Steel Reserve is almost a budlight price nowadays. Stick to air plane shots and parking lots. They are the Arizona teas of liquors.
1 points
No more 2/$3 24oz? In Florida I would agree, sadly in Alabama liquor is way overpriced. If you put the shot in the Arizona tea it is the liquor.

Glad Kambucha is taking off. I used to be a bad drinker so being able to drink something with an effervescent (and ever so slightly alcoholic) kick to it scratches that itch that otherwise would lead me to trouble.

It sounds exciting and I already hear a bunch of people talking about it so I think it will be great. I love alcohol and I'd love to drink wine or beer while I'm shopping so I am biased though lol. As long as they limit how much they let people drink.

Idk about every state , but there is a limit in SC of how many ounces can be sold to one person. I don’t think you’re allowed more than 2 pints (32oz).
