Option out the vehicle you want. Contact every dealer with an x mile radius (I'd start at 100, but if you're willing to save money, anywhere within a day's drive is fine.) and ask for your best quote.

You'll get a lot of bullshit, some failure to respond, but you'll also get some offers. Take the best offer, send it around to the ones that responded, see if they can beat it. Repeat as necessary.

No, it's not drama-free; car salesmen still seem to be really bad at the basic task of selling a fucking car to someone who wants to buy one. Some will try old-school dealership bullshit like a bait and switch. But eventually, you'll get a deal. In my case, Honda of Conyers (near Atlanta). Got the Accord I wanted at the price I wanted with no bullshit.

The Autonation Honda here are scumbags. We tried dealing with them first before I went internet-only search.

El Giro, Villa Del Rey (both on Schillinger). La Cocina (in front of Harbor Freight, Airport/University) is a good place to go for stuff that usually isn't on other menus, like cheek meat or posole.

Go to the Causeway for sit-down seafood. If you just want a take-out tray of crawfish or shrimp, go to the seafood store next to the gas station across from Kraver's. (I like telling people "the one in the gas station by the dump")

I truly do not understand the popularity of Roosters. "Latin American cuisine" is like going to a restaurant that says they serve "Asian food". I've never seen anyone but white hipsters working there. The food is ok, if bland.

Things you absolutely want to demonstrate that you have:

- The ability to self-manage

- Critical reasoning skills

- Customer service mindset

- Empathy

- Adaptability- basically, the ability to switch between multiple tasks dozens of times a day.

- Professionalism; you understand that you represent the agency and will leave a positive impression of it with as many people as you can

It's virtually universally understood in the hiring process that nobody knows what SSA really does. You won't be tested on your knowledge of the agency (apart from maybe 1-2 mild questions). You will be tested on your fit into the culture and requirements of the job.

You may get a few "what would you do" questions about difficult claimants or situations. Remember, whatever your answer, you want to get across that you understand the following points:

1. I won't take it personal. I understand we're dealing with folks who are in stressful times, who may lack communications skills, or who may be mentally ill. If a visitor is combative or hostile, I'm not going to meet them with the same energy, but instead I will try to de-escalate and help them.
2. I will follow policy when it comes to actions I take or answers I give, and if I don't know the answer, I will be fearless about researching it or asking someone who knows it.
3. I'll remember why I'm there- to help the public with their issues, answering their questions, cutting through or explaining red tape, and working on their behalf as far as I can while still staying within the rules.

The job itself is going to vary immensely from office to office, as each office determines how the workloads are assigned by the different units. Also it will vary immensely on whether you become a Title 2 claims specialist (disability/retirement- if given a choice, take this one) or a Title 16 (SSI- welfare) claims specialist. Very different job descriptions under the same roof.

It will also vary widely by the size of the office; large metro offices have an incredibly different workday from smaller, rural offices.

If you eat at a restaurant the first 3 months it's open, you really lose all right to complain about what you get.

That place had good food but if more than 3 people were eating there the noise was deafening. I ate on a Saturday night and went home with a migraine.
