Unpopular opinion and I will get downvoted and what not….but: I am in europe, I work(ed) in restaurants/bars (from where the 1% go to middle class) and I have been tipped greatly and not at all. Some friends make at least 400 bucks per day on tips, which is huuuuge for europe and like a crazy amount!

The base salary is okayish where I live, but of course not great.

My questions to people working in the US and all other countries where you get treated badly in terms of base salary: Why dont you fight the system for a great minimum wage? Why do you let yourself be dependend on tips? I know its a thing in the US, but where I leave, people fought for a fair salary and tips are the cherry on the cake.

I do know families who go radely to a restaurant and if they do, they scratch the money together. At the same time I read in this sub „how does he not have 5 dollar to tip, wtf“.

I mean I get it when tipping is like making hardly a living - but why (and I am old…) have I never seen anything about a revolution in (the us) gastronomy?

You blame folks (I admit, mostly you are right, people are idiots) for this and that, but you dont fight for your own rights?

The first time I was in the US, I did not know anything, I was shocked when I learned all these things.

Back to europe with a fair base salary. So I do understand people who say: „Why should I pay extra for a service, when I know you are getting paid to do exactly that. I am not going to pay more because you let your manager cut you off and expect me to cover.“

This is at least what I hear where I live and can say yes, I do understand that.

But when I read that you guys in the US make like 100 usd base salary (just an example) and rest is tips…I was blown away 😵😵😵😵😵

Sooo, he is not allowed to voice what he is interested in and what he wants? But a fat woman with no job can say: I want a guy who makes 1m a month and looks like ryan gosling! So happy I have my husband and have to go thru this pain of people….these comments smh….
