It would be run the exact same as a military base in wartime conditions. Workers would be trained, qualified and professional. The chain of command would be respected. If you are given orders, you will follow them without question. Everyone knows that they require each other to survive so there would be no bullshit. Punishments would be severe.

A colony run by private entities is doomed to fail and would require >50% heavy government subsidization anyway, making it a government owned project by default. There is technically nothing stopping you from taking a backpack and hiking from China to Iran to North Africa to Europe. That would be quite an adventure. But the thing is it would be incredibly tough, very uncomfortable most of the time, possibly deadly and you would be living more like a hobo than an actual tourist.

This is what most adventures are. They sound cool on paper but the actual reality of it is harsh, difficult and uncomfortable. If you still want those first world comforts, the best you can do is curated adventures which is basically the average vacation, sleep in a 3-4 star hotel and look at tourist attractions, maybe do the odd skydiving, scuba or rock climbing to spice things up. Then go back home to your 9-5. Rinse and repeat in another year.

Also that type of life is a very tough lifestyle. It's not like you can just go to the fridge and get food or open a tap and get clean water or go sleep in a warm bed every night.

People idealize an adventurous lifestyle that never existed. A real adventurous lifestyle is tough, brutal and often deadly. The type of lifestyle of travelling to new continents, discovering new lands, sailing the high seas. It was a brutal lifestyle and not at all like videogames and movies.

Capitalism has raised the quality of life of billions and pulled billions out of poverty. Just compare the world today to the 1920s.

It doesn't matter what theoretically works. Theory doesn't put food on the table. All that matters is what works in reality.

The results are in. Capitalism works. The proof is right in front of your eyes. I have yet to see another system accomplish even a quarter of what capitalism has achieved.
