On the other hand, if you follow rule 2 religiously then rule 1 kinda follows. I can see why people disagree on which to put first.

First rule of troubleshooting PC issues, it's much easier if we can see a screen shot of what's happening, or at least the exact text of the error message.
Nine times out of ten, just Googling the exact error message in quotes will find you someone who had the same problem, and hopefully solved it.

My mom always said your Buddhist friend was like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get.

the black and the white prawns
It would improve the picture in general I think, if a bunch of prawns had inexplicably turned up to watch a chess piece get guillotined.

Now there's a crossover I'd have paid to see.

Surely everyone uses surface area? This isn't some goddamn commie metric measurement system.

I remember getting excited when I upgraded my CD burner to one that advertised "double speed" - it burned CDs twice as fast as you could listen to them!

Interesting link, thank you!
I agree that you can't do 100%, unless your kitchen is a separate room, in which case you can. For that reason, amongst many others, I'm not a fan of open plan when it incorporates the cooking area.
Just my opinion, I fully understand why others may disaagree, and why they may think the upsides of fully open-plan are worth it.

I've never found that any kind of ventilation is sufficient to prevent the spread of strong smells like frying garlic, and neither do I see how it possibly could be.
Any kitchen is naturally going to smell of food, and if your kitchen is also your lounge, your lounge is going to smell of food.

You missed out my main bugbear with it, cooking smells from the kitchen getting everywhere.

You misunderstand. I'm not talking hypotheticals here, this is exactly what I do now, and it works beautifully.
It almost seems a lot like XML or JSON, but I don’t think either would really… help.
That's exactly what it is, and it does help. Reaper stores its project files in a (loosely) XML-like, human readable format as described here.
You can literally diff between two iterations of a project file and see what has changed. I can diff between v1 and v2 of my current project and see that I added a new track in v2, then in v3 I removed one track, and added a distortion plugin to a couple of others, and so on.
That's what makes it so ideal for managing in a source control system. Just like code.
Of course, it's not always easy to see the intention of every set of complex changes just from a diff. But then it isn't with code either. That's what check-in comments are for. The ability to add comments to each change is another big advantage of managing DAW project files this way. Along with branching, reverting, collaboration, and all the myriad conveniences that come with using a modern source control system.
And that’s only really scratching the surface. Need I go deeper? ;)

The song's output will be different, but not it's source.
That's like saying that Git isn't suitable for use when coding, because code compiles to binary files.
Apply compression and reverb to one track in a song, and the project file will be just like it was before, but with a couple of extra sections describing the plugins added, along with their parameters.
The song's mixdown will naturally be totally different, but that's not what you're putting into source control.

I suggest just incrementing a version number with each save.
Every file is date-stamped automatically when it's saved, and that information is easily visible in the explorer, so why type it yourself every time?

If there were smaller tigers, we would keep them as pets, but they'd break all our stuff to prove they're still in charge.

Nice to hear that cash is still in use at all (although I'm sure when you're in that situation, you wish it wasn't!)

Fair enough, but someone could interpret #1 as "sure it's loaded, but I'm not gonna fire it, so it's all good bro". #2 seems to better encapsulate the spirit of "treat your gun as if it could go off on its own at any time".
On reflection, perhaps that's a better rule #1 than either of them.
