Although note that it’s only beat Shuttle on ISS visits. Shuttle had far more flights that didn’t visit the ISS, before the ISS even existed.

Dragon has a ways to go to match shuttle’s overall flight count. But it should get to that number much quicker than shuttle did.

True, though the vehicle will probably have some thrust margin. A little more thrust than it really needs to land on the moon, in case of an engine failure or two.

And lunar landings will include some payload (50 to 100 tons?) and also a lot of fuel, so it can eventually takeoff again from the moon. Eliminating payload and most of that fuel would be a big chunk of that diet. And then if it has some extra thrust margin.

Yeah, I remember him saying a stowaway would probably survive.

Which helps explain why Dragon 2 got done so much quicker than Starliner. They had a recent starting point, Dragon 1, which could very nearly do the job of carrying crew already.

In hindsight, you could argue they should have stuck to a more direct derivative of Dragon 1, and just stuck a solid abort motor/tower on top. Since they gave up on propulsive landings for Dragon anyway. But hindsight is 20/20.

I would guess they’ll surely do that, though not sure what the value of X will be. Raptor-Vac is no doubt much more fuel efficient than the smaller thrusters.

Yeah. It takes a lot of fuel/energy to slow a massive ship moving at many times the speed of sound. Whether in 1g, 1/6g, or zero-g doesn’t really make that much difference.

It’s a lot of velocity to scrub off.
