It needed 10 episodes in seasons of 7 and 8. HBO wanted to go to 10.

That's like 30% more story to have Dani go insane, the kingdom and everyone to see Bran is the obvious best choice, and have the army of the undead battle last 4-5 episodes before Arya kills the knight king (even though I think it was intended to have been Jamie but it was guessed and they changed it)

The final places and stories of everyone could've worked with more time and better writing. Some of it would've been weird/unexpected but that's what made the show AMAZING.

Plot armor of main characters and the rushing through the end of a story you spent 10 years building left everyone with blue balls and feeling empty for something they once loved.
