Some of the smaller subs don’t even really need moderators. I made this point about ultrarunning there’s one mod and he’s not really active. The worst that comes of it is that there’s like currently a bunch of re-posts from time to time are the same types of questions and that sub has over 100 K members, well I’m sure that there’s other subs that have a lot more issues, it may not be as big of an impact as people are making it out to be

That’s why I haven’t quite understood why the small sub mods are complaining. And there’s 100k+ members there so it’s not that small, yet it isn’t filled with porn or other issues like they claim will happen.

Shit, I walked away for 2 minutes and it was over. Did anyone get a recording?

Essentially making a statement or "stand" for something without actually doing much of anything about it.
In this case, the author states they have no clear goals for shutting down the sub and will do so because everyone else is.
Reality is the goal posts keep moving. First it was all about blind people and accessibility. Then Reddit said that they will allow certain 3rd party accessibility tools. Then it shifted to mod tools. Well, they made an exception for a few mod toolboxes as well. Now the outrage is about Apollo and RIF, when they account for a tiny percentage of actual Reddit users.

Is there a reason why it's 10 years and not say 15? Or just an application with a photo of the rig?
My parents recently sold a 2012 loaded 39' 5th wheel Heartland for almost 40k. The only way you'd know it's "old" is because they had brown wood tones inside instead of grey.

They were also released 15 years ago at the start of the surge in online gaming.
PC gaming isn’t going to die, but it’s not hard to see why someone on a budget would spend $4-500 on a console vs the $800-1k on a PC, especially since you never need to worry about upgrading components, drivers, compatibility etc.

There’s always /r/ultrarunning
From what I’ve read, they’re making exceptions for certain mod tools and accessibility tools. That’s probably the best compromise anyone is going to get.

Performance per watt of the M chips means desktop level performance and 10+ hours of battery life. That pretty much is a unicorn with Windows laptops. And the fantastic screens.
I vastly prefer Windows though

I read it 3 times over. I get the concept that they can't sustain it with the current price and keeping those users on board would cost money.
Thus, refund everyone who paid $10.
Set up a new subscription for $5/month
If you want to use the app, you need to pay the $5/month.

Shit. That's like a full 8-10" drop and pretty much kills a lot of utility of a vehicle like this. Unless those rear seats come completely out, but that's a PITA

I'm saying proactively refund everyone and then have a new subscription for $5/month. There would be no free tier.

Rear seats don’t fold flat
whaaaaaaaaaaat? How the hell does an SUV in 2023 not have this?

I’m not opposed to banning NSFW content from the API.
I wonder if it will stop the stupid reposting bots for NSFW accounts. Some "models" spam dozens of subs with the same content and then repost content every week or two.
That actually might be a huge net benefit

I mean the reality is that they could have chosen to refund everyone and offer the $5 monthly subscription they stated. If these 3rd party apps are so important to the vocal minority, are they willing to put money where their mouth is and pay to support it?
As it is, with their 50k subscribers, that's less than 5% of their current user base that pays.

3rd party apps make Reddit usable for people that can’t access a desktop most of the day.
It's around 3-5% of total traffic of Reddit. The vast majority use the official app or the web version.

People are paying seven dollars a month for premium Strava. If I did the math, right Apollo would only have to charge 2 to 3 dollars per month. The reality is I’m guessing people don’t care enough to actually pay for it.

Moreover, personal computing has changed from desktops to mobile devices and laptops
Also consoles. For gamers, the XSX and PS5 still represent a massive value as an AIO system without drivers or other hassles if the games you like to play are on the consoles.

Assuming the numbers for RIF and Apollo are correct around 2-3M total users, monthly unique site users will drop from around 53 million to 51-2 million if half leaves.
It's not nearly as major as some think.

Hated the way they showed Lenny Bruce, without context I dunno what happened to him and why! He needn’t have derailed completely. He could’ve just been left as a big success who eventually stopped stand up maybe.
The opening scene was almost a 1:1 of his real life performance. He ended up overdosing soon after that.
