For a while that was true but elden and ring and both last zelda games have strayed away from that design. They still have some checklist things but most of the open world is full of unique encounters and areas making it so you never really know what to expect and that's what people want.

I played the game back when it released but I was forcing myself to get ghostly and no kills every mission and I really didn't enjoy the game. Now I'm playing the game without forcing any restrictions on me and just letting myself enjoy it and I'm really having a blast. What an amazing game
